In this episode, Angie Lion of Black River Performance Management and Brett Gettman of Red Hog Media discuss the leadership competency “coaching & development”.
Brett shares how compassion for others and genuine interest in their success is key to building confidence and competence in others. Brett and Angie share their love of photography as a way of looking at coaching and developing from a variety of perspectives and through a variety of different lenses.
Brett Gettman started taking professional photographs in 1987, helping with his dad’s wedding photography business. In college, this skill grew to include video when he worked in broadcast media as a camera operator and sports news reporter. After he got his pilot’s license in 2006, it further evolved with a desire to record his flights which required him to learn how to edit, leading him to develop his concise and compelling visual style.
Brett was an active real estate agent for over a decade and saw a clear connection between digital media and being competitive in the market. Now, with his real estate experience, along with a degree in Communication Advertising, he has an expert understanding of what goes into selling a property and how Red Hog Media fits into the equation. This combined expertise ultimately helps his clients achieve their goals. This career allows Brett to take his passion for helping businesses and combines it with his love of photography and video.
When Brett isn’t working, he’s coaching his daughters’ various sports teams, which reinforces the importance of small details and teamwork. Both these aspects of coaching overlap with his business, which is why Brett is so good at it!
